Rock Therapy: "Hold Your Head Up" by Argent

Guys, not everyone can pull off the rock and roll electric organ. Argent can. Dig it. Then read the ROCK THERAPY principles below...

And if it's bad Don't let it get you down, you can take it And if it hurts Don't let them see you cry, you can make it

Hold your head up, hold your head up Hold your head up, hold your head high

And if they stare Just let them burn their eyes on you moving And if they shout Don't let them change a thing that you're doing

Hold your head up, hold your head up Hold your head up, hold your head high

Here are some rocking therapeutic principles and encouragement from this great rocker of a song:

Resiliency: "You can take it." You are more resilient than you realize. Look over your life. You've gotten through hard, tough times before... somehow, but you did. YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS! You are resilient. Trust yourself that you will get through this. My colleague and friend, Julie Blanton, had this plaque in her office, her personal mantra, "This too shall pass."

Project confidence:"Don't let them see you cry." Now as a therapist I'm all for crying and expressing your feelings, however, here it reminds me of Jesus saying, "Don't cast your pearls before swine." In other words, don't give the idiots of the world any satisfaction. Hold your head up and be proud of who you are, that you're trying. Read my "Open Letter to the Critics and Naysayers of the World" to see how I feel about these "swine."

Keep on keeping on:"let them burn your eyes on you moving... don't let them change a thing that you're doing." Stay on course. Keep doing what you're doing. Don't worry what others say and don't let them distract you from your goals. You're not here to meet their standards. This is your life. Live it. Don't wait for others to "get it" and don't worry about their lame judgments of you.
